Great Wine Capitals

Mainz and Rhinehesse – the state capital of Rhineland-Palatinate and the largest wine-growing region of Germany – have been members of the Great Wine Capitals Global Network, a union of the most renowned wine cities in the world, since June 2008. The core goals of the organisation are to work towards creating an attractive wine experience package and to create an increased awareness of domestic wine-culture identity. The great wine capitals, Mainz and Rhinehesse, are the German representatives of the network. Here, marketing organisations for tourism and wine, cultural initiatives, winemakers, scientists and hoteliers, restaurateurs and traders are all working towards one goal: to better position Rhinehesse and its wines when it comes to global competition.
